Thinking of trying a lemon tea fast, or cabbage soup diet? Or, perhaps a Master Cleanse? Going on a diet, particularly a crash diet (less than 1,200 calories/ day), is disastrous for your metabolism and can cause your body to enter ‘starvation mode’. Is Intermittent Fasting Good For Weight Loss? Could there be downsides to intermittent fasting? 

The Globesity epidemic has spawned a cottage industry of weight loss schemes. Currently in vogue is intermittent fasting! Intermittent fasting is all about deciding when to eat and when to abstain from eating, and it does not deal with what kind of food you eat. There’s a lot of controversy about intermittent fasting these days. Is intermittent fasting really good for weight loss? Are there drawbacks to fasting for periods of time?

Here’s Jon Gabriel’s take on this, if you’re experiencing chronic hunger every time you don’t eat for long periods of time, intermittent fasting will just work against you. Why? Chronic hunger is going to cause a low-grade stress which can elevate your cortisol levels. Once this happens, the elevated cortisol levels will cause insulin resistance. This is the condition of our body where our insulin levels are always elevated which in turn makes you lose your ability to burn fat (Learn How to Regain Ability to Burn Fat).

And all this was recently confirmed by new research presented at the European Society of Endocrinology annual meeting. The study suggests that intermittent fasting may raise Insulin levels , damage pancreatic cells, and increase the amount of abdominal fat. Downsides to Intermittent Fasting – Damaging Effects of Intermittent Fasting

Although intermittent fasting may lead to early, rapid weight loss, in the long-term intermittent fasting diets could cause potentially serious damaging effects to a person’s health. Intermittent fasting may impair the normal activity of the pancreas and the production of insulin, which may, in turn, raise the risk of type 2 diabetes.
